Why this music carries history.
Across Punjab and the Sikh world, music has carried language, poetry, memory and spiritual reflection from one generation to the next.
Shabad Kirtan developed through a centuries-old practice of singing sacred verse. Much of the Guru Granth Sahib is arranged under Raag headings, connecting the meaning of the words with melodic form and emotional character. Traditional Sikh music used voices, rhythm and instruments such as the rabab and other stringed saaj; harmonium and tabla became common in modern practice.
For families living far from Punjab, learning music can also become a way to hear familiar language, understand cultural context and participate confidently in community life. Sargam’s programs bring that inheritance into a welcoming Winnipeg classroom—through listening, repetition, discipline and shared performance.

Learning becomes something we share.
Group classes encourage careful listening, teamwork, friendship and the confidence to perform. Students may participate in cultural programs and community events as they progress.
Music for every stage of life.
Children, youth and adults are welcome, from first-time beginners to advanced learners.
